A NOTE ABOUT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL REZONING PLAN - MARCH 26, 2021
Once the middle school rezone is approved by the MCS Board of Education, it will go into effect at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. At that time all rising 7th and 8th grade students may complete a transfer request to remain at their currently zoned middle school for their 7th and 8th grade year. Parents will have to provide transportation and younger siblings will not be approved. (Rising 7th grade students would need to complete the transfer request again for their 8th grade year in 2023-2024.) If the family moves to a new school zone, the waiver will no longer be valid to remain at the school and the student will need to attend the zoned school.
Madison City Schools is excited to open a new middle school in August 2022. Journey Middle School will open with approximately 900 students, providing much needed room in our existing middle schools. With this opening, we need to rezone students to this new school for the start of the 2022-2023 school year. This rezone is based on all current and new developments approved by the City of Madison and the Town of Triana. As with our proposed elementary rezone, we always strive to keep our schools representative of our diverse community. Madison City Schools has always created school populations at each school with similar socio-economic ratios. This is an exciting time as we continue to build the brick and mortar for this school over the next year, preparing to create a new school with a great culture of academic excellence ready to welcome students in August, 2022.
