With a snip of the scissors and a few words from some dignitaries, Journey Middle School officially joined the lineup of high performing schools in Madison City.
A formal ribbon cutting and public open house was held July 31. The christening comes just in time for the Aug. 3 school start when approximately 650 students will be in the innaugural class at Journey.
Joining Superintendent Dr. Ed Nichols and MCS BOE President Tim Holtcamp at the ribbon cutting were Journey Principal Dr. Treva Stewart, Mayor Paul Finley, MCS board Vice President Travis Cummings, MCS board members Alice Lessmann, Scott Newberry and Tommy Overcash, several state lawmakers, local chamber officials and more.
A great crowd was on hand to witness the historical event and tour the school.
Journey Middle is located at 217 Celtic Drive behind the Madison City Schools Central Office.
Journey will be the Journey Jaguars and serve students who have been rezoned from both the Discovery and Liberty middle school districts.
The $51 million, 170,000 square foot school was delayed a year from opening from construction and supply chain issues.
