     National Affiliate: The operational control of the National Honor Society at the national level is sponsored by the National Council and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

    NHS Applications for new members

    Any sophomore and junior with at least a 3.8 weighted GPA who wishes to be considered for induction into the National Honor Society can pick up an activities form outside of C109, or you can join the Schoology group to get the form. The Schoology group code is available on the BJHS dashboard. 

    Forms are due March 10th and must be turned in to Ms. McCarley (C109) or Mr. Morrell (N120). Electronic submissions will not be accepted, and forms must be received by Friday, March 10thCurrent members do not need to reapply.


     Club Goals or Purpose:

    The purpose of this organization is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of Bob Jones High School.

    Community Engagement:

    Members are required to participate in at least four service projects each school year. Service projects vary and are determined by the NHS officers. Some of these activities may include, but are not limited to, activities such as after-school tutoring, visiting a local nursing home, working at a thrift store, helping with events at non-profit organizations, bringing supplies for an inner-city learning center, etc.

     Club Qualifications for Membership:

    The Bob Jones High School Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) is comprised of a group of students who meet all National Honor Society national requirements. According to NHS established procedures, members are selected by a five-member faculty panel based upon their scholarship, leadership, service, and character. To be eligible for membership selection, a student must have completed his tenth grade year and maintained a minimum 3.8 GPA. Those students who meet these requirements are submitted to the faculty panel for consideration. The panel then selects students for membership based on the student’s service, leadership, and character. It should be stressed that those students who meet the scholarship requirement are not automatically selected for membership. It should also be stressed that selection for NHS is an honor; selection is not guaranteed to any student. Panel members take into consideration all grades, discipline records, and actions from the beginning of the ninth grade year forward. To be considered for membership, a student should be a current sophomore or junior and complete an NHS Activity Sheet. Current seniors are not eligible for selection. Activity sheets are usually available in late February/early March, and the deadline for returning the forms to a faculty adviser is usually before spring break. All members must be students presently enrolled at BJHS, but shall not be denied membership because of race, color, creed, sex, national origin, or disability.

     Meetings to be held (dates, times, location):  Meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:40 a.m. in the auditorium. If the second Tuesday falls during a school break, the meeting will be moved to the following Tuesday.

     Constitution or bylaws that govern club membership:

    The rules and regulations of this chapter/organization are vested in the national level of the National Honor Society. There is no affiliation with any political or religious organization, or any organization denying membership on the basis of race, color, creed, sec, national origin, or disability. The following are additional chapter by-laws.

     Article I      Members of the National Honor Society have been selected by faculty members of Bob Jones based on scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Members are expected to demonstrate these qualities.

     Article II    All members must pay dues/fees by October 31. Dues/fees are $35 for new members (one-time payment).

     Article III   All members are to comply with the following requirements: the completion of at least four service projects and attendance at least seven meetings.

     Article IV    NHS meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:40 a.m. in the auditorium. If the second Tuesday falls during a school break or holiday, the meeting will be moved to the following Tuesday. Members are allowed two absences. Each absence after the two allowed will require an additional service project in order to be excused.

     Article V     Members who fail to complete four service projects and/or have unexcused absences will be dismissed from the National Honor Society and will not be permitted to wear the NHS stole at Bob Jones graduation.

     Article VI    Although members are encouraged to volunteer in a variety of community activities, only those service projects sponsored by NHS will count toward NHS service credit.

     Article VII     Members will be considered tardy for monthly meetings if they arrive any later than 7:45 a.m. Two late arrivals will be equivalent to one unexcused absence.

     Procedures for the collection or disbursement of club funds in accordance with the Board Policies:

    All members must pay dues/fees by October 31. Dues/fees are $35 for new members (one-time payment). The dues/fees include the cost of a graduation stole.
