JCHS Chess Team
Students interested in trying out for the JCHS Chess Team must complete and complete tasks by July 31st to be considered for the team. Team practices will be on Mondays during Refuel in Ms. Simons' room (B110). Our first meeting will be in August, after our Club Expo has occurred.
JCHS Chess Club
The James Clemens High School Chess Club is a student service organization affiliated with the Madison City Chess League (MCCL), a non-profit organization that helps teach kids how to play chess and develop chess skills. There is no fee to join, but to remain in good standing, Chess Club members must perform 4 service hours per semester or 8 service hours per year. The service hours must be related to promoting chess in the community. Chess Club members also participate in a signature project that is selected by its members in conjunction with MCCL during the school year.
In past school years, the JCHS Chess Club members adopted Madison and Columbia Elementary chess teams and coached students at both schools. Chess Club members also volunteered at All Star West Chess Club hosted at Heritage Elementary for 2nd and 3rd graders.
Meetings for the Chess Club take place on the first Monday each month during Refuel in Mrs. Simons' room starting in September, after Labor Day.
