Ms. Mary Crouch

¡Hola! Soy la profe Crouch. I live with my husband and our two kids in Huntsville. I graduated in 2009 from UAH with a B.A. in Spanish, and later earned an M.Ed. from Auburn University in Secondary Spanish Education.  I have also earned a graduate certificate in TESOL from UAH with the DIAL Project.

I've taught all ages of students, and in many different places, like Colombia (ESL), Tennessee (ESL & Spanish), and Decatur (Spanish & French).  I began teaching Spanish at JC in 2013.  Now, I've been here for over 10 years! I have taught all levels of Spanish offered, Spanish 1 through Spanish 6, usually teaching level 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

We focus on second language acquisition strategies within the classroom within relevant, compelling contexts for students.  We explore many cultures & subcultures in Spanish-speaking countries with diverse media & materials, while students gather input from aural and text-based sources to develop their implicit, automatic linguistic systems within their brains.  Students also have many opportunities during class to speak and write while sharing about themselves and their own cultures to foster a positive and low-stress classroom environment.

My goal for students is to feel linguistically and socially confident and culturally aware in order for them to be able to communicate in real-world situations with Spanish speakers in Spanish-speaking countries and around the world, even in Madison.

I love traveling and experiencing cultures in Spanish-speaking countries!  And, I love to inspire this life-long interest in students, too!
