Mrs. Krista Himes-Shingleton
¡Bienvenidos a la clase de Español I! Welcome to Spanish class! My name is Señora Himes-Shingleton and I am delighted to be your Spanish teacher this year! I love the Spanish language and can't wait to share the language and culture with you! I was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia, home of the Master's Golf tournament and affectionately known as "The Garden City". I am a graduate of Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School in Augusta, GA. After High School, I earned a B.A. in Spanish from Mercer University, a Master of Arts in TESOL (Teaching English to speakers of other languages) from the University of Mississippi, and an Ed.S in The teaching of Foreign Languages from Auburn University (War Eagle!) . Prior to moving to Madison, I taught Spanish to students in grades 6 through 12 in the Burke, Columbia, and Richmond County School systems located in the state of Georgia. This is my sixth year at Liberty and my 27th year as a professional educator. I am glad to be here! Go Liberty Lions!!
I believe that traveling to the country where the language is spoken is essential to increasing spoken language proficiency and acquiring a deeper understanding of the culture and people who speak the language. I have studied and lived with families in Sevilla, Spain; Quito, Ecuador; Lima, Peru, and Cuernavaca, Mexico.
I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. In my spare time, I enjoy shopping, traveling, collecting perfumes, trying new restaurants, watching telenovelas (Spanish language soap operas) and spending time with my husband and children.
