What is Science Olympiad? Science Olympiad is an international non-profit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education and increasing student interest in science. Last year (23-24) we attended 3 tournaments out-of-state and took home 2nd at the Chatthoochee High School Invitational in GA, 5th place at the Dodgen/Walton Invitational in GA, (the top 2 schools in the country were at that competition all the way from California!) and 2nd place at the Friendship Christian School Invitational in TN. We also won Regionals at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and went on to win the State Tournament at Auburn University. We traveled to Michigan State University for the National Tournament. We scored 4th in the nation with "Can't Judge a Powder" and 6th in the nation with "Microbe Mission". Check out the official Science Olympiad website to learn more about the program. soinc.org
What We Do: Liberty's teams prepare for 23 different events pertaining to various scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Students do not need to enroll in the course in order to be on the team.
Our teams will participate in 2-3 Invitational tournaments in the fall and winter before competing in the regional tournament. The regional tournament is generally in February/March. The top two teams at Regionals will qualify for the State Competition. The State Competition is generally held at Auburn University at the end of March.
Who Can Join? All students grades 6-9. It is a great place to explore new avenues in science and build relationships with fellow students who have a passion for science. I can have up to 5 9th graders on the team.
